Richard “Dickie” Scott Lail, 63, of Hudson passed away Monday, November 20, 2023 at his home following a period of declining health.
Dickie was born August 10, 1960 in Caldwell County, NC to Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Lail and the late William Thomas Lail. He worked many years as a plumber for L.R. Troutman Plumbing Company. Dickie will be remembered as a friend to all. He was a giving person, never hesitant to lend a hand to someone in need. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, who were his world. Dickie also enjoyed singing karaoke with his friends at Fresh Depot.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry Gurley Lail; daughter, Richelle Millison Lail; and brother, William “Bill” Lail.
Those left to cherish his memory include his grandchildren, Tanner Scott Yount, and Aubree Millison Yount of the home; mother, Myrtle Ruth Lail of Granite Falls; siblings, Alan Lail and wife Sharon of Hickory, Todd Lail and wife Cathy of Granite Falls, and Kim McKee of Granite Falls; sisters-in-law, Pam Lail of Hudson, and Susan Singleton of Hudson. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held 11:30AM Saturday, November 25, 2023 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service with the Rev. Mark Dula officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls with Nathan Singleton, Michael Singleton, Shawn Lail, Jason Lail, Derek Price, Todd Walker, and Scott Lail serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00AM to 11:30AM at Mackie Funeral Service.

Dickie, Ronnie and I are so Blessed to have met you and became friends. You are a beautiful soul who fought hard through all the tragedies that tried to get you down, but your Soul Shined Through It All. We pray for your family and friends that have known and loved you through the years to be comforted and will understand that now you are in the arms of your loved ones, and I am sure Jesus met you with open arms. We only knew you for such a short time, and we will miss you so much. How we wish you were here healthy and laughing, but in time we will see you again. You will remain in our hearts and our memories will always make us smile and feel your loving ways. Until we meet again……keep singing.
