Mr. Richard “Larry” Hatton, 75, of Hudson passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at his home. Larry was born July 27, 1947 in Caldwell County, NC to the late James P. Hatton and Katie Suddreth Hatton. He grew up in Caldwell County with his three brothers and sister. After graduating from Happy Valley High School, Larry served in the US Army and eventually settled into a lengthy career as a Car Salesman where he could use some of his best qualities: talking to people and making people laugh.
Larry loved life and it showed. He never met a stranger and as a result of his wit and friendly nature, he had many friends that he loved. His time at the many car shows he attended not only allowed him to display his favorite classic cars, it provided him opportunities to share funny, entertaining stories. Other hobbies included playing cards, bowling, golfing, and spending time with family over a meal.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Linda Avonell Simpkins Hatton; and brothers, James Hatton, David Hatton, and Michael Hatton.
Survivors include his sister, Lauretta Bryant and husband Kenneth of Lenoir; daughter, Amy Buckman and husband Jon of High Point; son, Pete Hatton and Claire Thwaites of Fort Mill, SC; step children, Robbie Heavner and wife Amy of Virginia, and Michelle Michalec and husband Jon of Yadkinville; grandchildren, Christopher Buckman, Grace Buckman, and Rebecca Thwaites; step-grandchildren, Justin Heavner, Jessica Dillard, Joshua Michalec, and Alexa Michalec. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and close friend, Carolyn Borders.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, April 7, 2023 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service with the Rev. Rudy Hayes and Rev. Watsel Beard officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.
Prior to his passing, Larry requested that his friends with classic cars drive them to the service.
RIP Larry gone but not forgotten!
