Mr. Phillip Wayne Black, 82, of Hickory departed this life to his heavenly home on Monday October 17, 2022 at Carolina Caring Hospice, following a period of declining health.
Mr. Black was born November 8, 1939, in Davidson County, NC to the late Alfred Lloyd Black and Agnes Parrish Black. He worked at Martin Marietta Hickory Quarry for 35 years. Mr. Black was passionate about spreading the Word of God. He was happy to share the gospel with anyone willing to listen by participating in prison ministry or simply speaking to those around him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nina Buchanan Black; daughter, Angela Black Snyder; brother, L.T. Black; sister, Betty Black Goodman; and nephew, Phillip Lloyd Black.
Survivors include daughters, Nancy Black Yoder and husband Andy of Hickory and Tammy Black Goldsmith and husband Matthew of Raleigh; grandchildren, Joshua Allen Yoder and wife Amy of Morganton; Ariel Yoder Roark of Hickory and Piper Michele Goldsmith of Raleigh; great-grandchildren, Noah James Yoder, Chloe Grace Yoder, David Jeremy Roark, Grayson Owens, Peyton Owens and Madi Edwards.
A funeral service will be held 1:00PM Thursday, October 20, 2022 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service with the Rev. Dale Leonhardt officiating.
Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hickory.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday from 12:00PM to 1:00PM at Mackie Funeral Service.
I’m so sorry for your loss. Your dad was always nice and friendly to me when I seen him. I know he will be greatly missed, but leaves so many memories behind to cherish. I pray for strength and peace during this time and the days ahead. Sending. Love and hugs to all of you!
