Paul Randal (Randy) Groves, 64, of Hickory passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, at Frye Regional Medical Center.
Paul was born October 24, 1959, to the late Thomas Groves and Lavonda Banner Watson. Paul was a 1977 graduate of Hibriten High School; he then joined the US Navy, traveling around the world on the USS Ponce. He was known for his caring personality and funny since of humor. Paul never met a stranger, he loved everybody.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by a brother Thomas Groves; stepsisters, Debbie Brawley and Carla Smith; and nephew William Ray Minton Jr.
Survivors include his daughter Melissa Groves of Hickory; sister, Linda Minton of Spruce Pine; stepsister, Sheila Hefner (Carl) of Drexel; two granddaughters, Madison Groves and Kayliana Groves of Hickory; niece, Lisa Ternes (Rob) of Fort Worth, Texas; several great nieces and nephews; and many close friends; Tanya Younce and his beloved Ivy girl.
In lieu of flowers donations my be made to Mackie Funeral Service to cover cost of funeral arrangements.
A visitation of family and friends will be held on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Mackie Funeral Service from 11AM to 1PM.

I just now found out about this and i am deeply heartbroken! i knew him for many years and he helped out so many people and will be sorely missed! his personality and memories will be in my mind always. my prayers and thoughts go out to all who loved him. may you Rest in Peace with the stars forever Paul. and we must all remember that to be absent from the body is to be with God.

I loved Paul so much! He was a dear friend and faithful member of our church. He was always welcoming people on Sundays with a hug and encouragement. I will miss my “Big Paul”. My heart is broken but I know he is with Jesus .
