Nancy Herring
Nancy “Jean” Johnson Herring, 86, of Rhodhiss, passed away peacefully Saturday March 9, 2024 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital, after residing at Hickory Falls Health & Rehabilitation for 2 years.
Born June 16, 1937 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Eligh Johnson and Carrie Jane “Hargus” Johnson. She fell in love and married Homer Herring, in February of 1956 who preceded her in death in 1989. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Rhodhiss.
Jean was a hard-working mother/homemaker first and foremost. She treasured her family and was known to many as “Grannie”. She had a passion for sewing and quilting. She enjoyed making various costumes and clothes for her grandchildren. Jean also enjoyed working puzzles in her spare time. Her favorite passion was watching after her many grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Homer Herring; her brothers and sisters, Thelma Minton, Arthur Johnson, Homer Johnson, Mildred “Micky” Hefner, Carol Johnson, Aileen Childers, Eligh “Junior” Johnson, and Billy Johnson.
She will be sorely missed and survived by her children; Dorothy Houston of Hudson, James “Jimmy” Herring (Brenda) of Boiling Springs, Homer “Buddy” Herring (Sandy) of Granite Falls, and Cathy Crump (David) of Connelly Springs; grandchildren, Jason Helton (Brandi), Tasha Huskey (Jason), Casey Herring, Carrie Wilson (Jimmy), Mandy Carpenter, Jessica Divine (Tristan), Eli Capps and Matt Houston and fiancé Kassidy; her precious great-grandchildren; Madison, Dylan, Peyton, Maddox, Braylee, Sadie, Paisley, Oliver, Mckinley, and Harper; also surviving are many nieces and nephews, and her many pets she loved dearly.
All whom love her dearly and will never forget her sass, wit, charm, grace and undying love and caring for them.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday March 15, 2024 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, with Rev. Dr. Josh Lail officiating. Interment will follow at Warlick’s Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls.
