Michael Sanchez Clay, 60, of Lenoir, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep to be with the Lord on August 10, 2024. Born on January 24, 1964, in The Bronx, New York, he embraced life with a passion for cooking, spending precious time with his family, and cherishing moments with his grandchildren.
Michael’s career as a private investigator detective was marked by dedication and a keen sense for detail, skills that mirrored his personal hobbies, which included working with his hands and exploring the beautiful North Carolina mountains.
He was a cherished member of the Highways to Hedges Ministry in Lenoir, where he found spiritual solace and fellowship.
Michael leaves behind his loving wife, Helene Elizabeth Clay, and a beautifully blended family that includes his step-daughter, Sabrina Justice Clay; his children Richard P. Sanchez, Michael J. Sanchez, Brianna Sanchez, Veronica Ruiz, Lizzette Perez, and Anthony J. Sanchez; grandchildren Ronaldo Madrid Clay, Alexander Cristiano Clay-Blevins, Jaden M. Sanchez, Izaiah Sanchez, Sydnie Mikayla Sanchez, Mya Michelle Sanchez, Noah Alexander Sanchez, Greyson Cole Hoffman, Justice Johnathan Benjamin, and Ava Veronica Naylor; his siblings Rafaela Happaney and Myrna Sanchez; great-grandchild Ken’yonte Grimes Jr.; as well as his loving sister and brother in law Amanda Gail Williams and Kurt Martin Williams and his parents in law Gail Hackney and John Clay
He was preceded in death by his parents Jose H. Sanchez and Antonia Sanchez; his sister Ramonita Sierra and brother Dick Sanchez.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude, honoring Michael’s compassionate spirit. His legacy will live on through his family, his community, and the many lives he touched.
