Linda Setzer Carpenter was born in Union, S.C. on January 24th 1941. Linda spent most of her growing up years in Cherryville, N.C. She was married to Gene Carpenter for over 60 years and raised two children, Rebekah and Tommy. She was a very private, detailed person who was mostly in the background, delighting in helping everyone around her look good. Any successes Gene, Rebekah and Tommy experienced were in large part due to her dedication to family, her loyalty to her beloved Mt. Zion Baptist Church and her steadfast Christian faith walk. Taking care of many details for Gene, Rebekah and Tommy gave her great joy and she wanted more than anything to create a home where her husband and children thrived and were filled with a love for God. She continued enthusiastically supporting and planning birthday parties and events for the three granddaughters that entered her life on March 9th of 2020, giving her unbelievable joy and photos that fill her house.
Linda was also deeply motivated by those that needed help. For over 20 years, she visited every Saturday in the community, inviting children to ride the bus to church. Every Thursday she worked in the CARE ministry of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, writing cards and encouraging the sick and down trodden. Weekly she spent time in the church sanctuary picking up trash and making sure worship materials and pencils were organized and ready for the Sunday service.
A final monumentally important aspect of Linda’s life journey revolved around her total health transformation at the age of 50 due to living foods. Her children watched in awe as she rejuvenated and then started teaching classes to help others do the same. She was a trailblazer and pioneer in this area who proudly helped so many people regain their health and vitality.
In their attempt to honor Linda, Gene, Rebekah and Tommy have planned a casual service to be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Sanctuary on Cajah Mtn. Road in Hudson, N.C. on Sunday March 30th at 2 PM with a reception afterwards in the fellowship hall. Heavy hors d’oeuveres will be served.
