Mr. Junior Thomas Duffey, 94, of Granite Falls passed away Tuesday August 29, 2023 at Amorem Hospice in Valdese following a period of declining health.
Junior was born April 6, 1929 in Caldwell County to the late Paul Nelson Duffey and Pearlee Keller Duffey. He was a veteran of the National Guard and Army Reserves. Junior proudly served his community for 16 years working for the Town of Granite Falls as a maintenance worker, dispatcher, and fireman. He was Granite Falls Fire Chief from 1959 to 1969 where he worked to build the fire station and train professional fire fighters. The Granite Falls Fire Department always held a special place in his heart.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Katherine Blackwelder; his second wife, Betty Hedrick Duffey; son, Mark Wayne Duffey; brothers, Melvin Duffey, Paul Duffey, and Rick Duffey; and sisters, Nancy Story and Naomi Burns.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Thomas James Duffey of Bethlehem, Ronald Allen Duffey and wife Rebecca of Maiden, Phillip Ray Duffey and wife Connie of Clayton, and Larry Stephen Duffey and wife Virginia of Granite Falls; grandchildren, Esther Clement and husband Alan, Gideon Duffey, Brian Duffey, Robin Voisin and husband Paul, and Rhonda Reid. Also surviving are five great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday September 2, 2023 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service with the Rev. Randy Goode officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls with the Granite Falls Fire Department serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Mackie Funeral Service.

So sorry of June’s death. He was one that I really enjoyed taking care of. His stories about his life and adventures was so interesting. Deep down he really cared for his family and friend’s. May God be with you and comfort you in the time ahead while June is having a big old family reunion in Heaven with God and all of his family that went before him.
