James R. Kirby

James Randolph Kirby, 75, of Granite Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday February 4, 2025 at Carolina Caring in Newton following a period of declining health.

James was born on April 23, 1949 in Caldwell County to the late Samuel Jones Kirby and Beulah Mae Woods Kirby. He worked at General Electric for many years as a machinist, and later worked at Goodyear in Statesville. James  was a member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church in Granite Falls.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Elaine Barlow Kirby; and one daughter, Elizabeth Taylor.

Survivors include his two daughters, Jennifer Cary and husband Scott of Conover, and Shannon Kirby of Vale; his grandchildren, James Taylor, Kelsey Quinn, Abby Quinn, Jena Ivey , Madison Ivey and Julie Cary; and one great-grandson, Coltyn Quinn; and one sister, Judy Wilson and husband Gerald of Lenoir and a niece, Julie Robbins of Hudson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 8, 2025 in the Chapel of Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, with Pastor Tamika Garrison officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his wife Sandra.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00-2:00 P.M. at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls.
