Gregory Oxford Smith, 64, of Granite Falls, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, November 24, 2023. Born November 16, 1959, in Salisbury, North Carolina, he was the son of Janelle Teague Smith Kent and the late Jara Oxford Smith.
Greg attended school in Caldwell County and was a graduate of Hibriten High School. Following graduation, he was a self-employed mechanic.
In addition to his father, Jara Oxford Smith, and brother, Todd Eric Smith, he was also preceded in death by his step-father, James C. Kent, Sr., paternal grandparents, Clarence and Vera Smith; and maternal grandparents, Ronald and Ruth Teague.
Greg is survived by his daughter, Kayla Wallace and husband Aaron; grandchildren, Huntleigh and Weston Wallace; mother, Janelle Teague Smith Kent; step-sisters, Becca Kent Lawing and husband Hal, Debbie Kent; step-brother, James C. Kent, Jr. and wife Tina; and uncles, Brian Teague and Marty Teague.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Mackie Funeral Service in Granite Falls, NC.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Lenoir, NC, with Pastor Ken Gillen officiating.
