Edward Lee Long, 74, of Granite Falls, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at UNC Healthcare Blue Ridge following a period of declining health.

Edward was born January 5, 1949, in Catawba County to the late Lester Long and Gladys Franklin Paige. He served honorably in the United States Navy during Vietnam and loved serving his country. He had a degree in horticulture and loved being outdoors. Edward enjoyed art, the beach, the mountains, and antiques.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Norma Jean Deal.

He is survived by his sisters, Linda Louise Deal, Patricia Gail Hackney, and Kathie Marie Goodrum; stepchildren, Eric Esch and wife Jamie and Matthew Spears and wife Heather; numerous nieces and nephews; and his service dog, Sugar.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
