Mr. Donald Davis Turnmire, 62, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, December 30, 2023 at his home, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Donald was born August 28, 1961 in Guilford County to Mrs. Imogene “Babe” Turnmire and the late Fred Atlas Turnmire. He worked for the Town of Granite at the Waste Water Treatment Plant. He also retired from the Sawmills Fire Department after twenty five years of service. Donald was a member at Dry Ponds Baptist Church.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Karen Turnmire of the home; children, Donovan Atlas Turnmire and wife Elizabeth of Cullowhee, April Lorraine Turnmire Mitchell and husband Clint of Granite Falls; and Caleb Brooks of Lenoir; grandchildren, Brooks A. Turnmire, RayLynn Mitchell, Claira Brooks, Clayton Brooks, and Carter Brooks; mother, Imogene “Babe” Turnmire; siblings, Phil Turnmire and wife Angie, Doug Turnmire and wife Ruth, Mike Townsend and wife Tina, and Susan Turnmire; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Dry Ponds Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Evans officiating.
Interment will follow in the Dry Ponds Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, on Wednesday from 1:00PM to 2:00PM at Dry Ponds Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amorem Hospice of Caldwell or to Dry Ponds Baptist Church.
I just heard about Don’s passing. So sorry for your loss to all of the family.

I grew up with Donovan and his dad was alot like mine they both instilled hard work ethic. Stern but fare ill never forget how welcoming they was to me.

Loss for words here. An amazing person, with a big heart. Loved hearing stories when my brother would come home from your house. My brother could make me laugh with some of the stories he had, but he always said you were his second home as a kid, you were like a father figure to him along with Donovan being like a brother he never had.
