Betty Witherspoon, 89, of Granite Falls, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family on April 25, 2025.
Betty was born on July 5, 1935 in Caldwell County to the late Walter and Ottie Mae Woods.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Doug Woods and four sisters, Willa-Dean Johnson, Doris Pope, Marilyn Smith, and Barbara Secreast.
Those left to cherish her memory include, her husband of 55 years, Jerry Witherspoon; three children, Bill Barlow (Lana) of Hudson; Marsha Edwards of Granite Falls; Mandi Parham (Jeff) of Granite Falls; seven grandchildren, Neal Carter, Jenna Allen, Will Barlow, Tiffany Alley, Mallory Edwards, Anna Brooke Drury, and Tanner Parham; her two brothers, Max and Travis Woods; and eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, and she dedicated her life to her family and her church. Betty was a faithful and devoted member of the First Baptist Church in Granite Falls, where she also served as the church secretary for over 25 years. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Betty cherished her roles as a mother, and grandmother, creating unique and special bonds with each of her children and grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds, and her family was the center of her world.
An avid lover of arts and crafts, Betty will be fondly remembered for her creativity and attention to detail. Her love for Christmas was evident in her extensive collection of Santa Claus figurines and Christmas tree ornaments, each meticulously hand-painted to perfection.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday April 29, 2025 at the Whitnel First Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Stuart White and Rev. Jay Worsley officiating.
Pallbearers will be Neal Carter, Will Barlow, Gage Allen, Tanner Parham, Tyler Drury, Harley Sullivan, and Logan Alley.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 507 Granite Falls, NC 28630 or Amorem Hospice, 902 Kirkwood Street Lenoir, NC 28645.
