It was a most wonderful thing when I moved in beside Nancy and Melvin in Southport NC. And not just meeting them but also Ashley, Macy and at that time, Remi was the fur child. Nancy had the most delightful sense of humor and I missed her so much when she moved to Hickory. I did not know she had received the Order of the Longleaf Pine. What an honor that was for her. And so very deserved! I know God has welcomed her into His presence! I can’t wait to see her again one day!
Nancy was my first friend. We were neighbors on Bellview Street in Winston-Salem. Her Aunt Jesse gave me my first job stuffing envelopes for monthly billing at the department store where she worked. I imagine I was about 12. We lost track of each other but I got her address when my cousin, Tommy Smith, a classmate of Nancy’s at Reynolds High School, saw an article about her being awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. We talked on the phone and planned to get together, but I was very I’ll at the end of 2019. Then COVID hit and we never made it. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. However I rejoice that she was such an important part of my early life.
I was saddened to learn of Nancy’s death. She was a kind-hearted person who always wanted to help other people. In 2012, it was my pleasure to present her with the Granite Falls Woman of the Year in recognition of her service to the Shelter Home. She will be greatly missed
