Obituary for Benjamin Arthur Setzer Jr.

Benjamin Arthur  Setzer Jr.
Benjamin Arthur Setzer, Jr. (Ben) of Granite Falls, 84, died Monday, August 20, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends at home.
Mr. Setzer was born July 12, 1934, in Catawba County, son of Benjamin and Elsie Setzer. He served as Vice-president of Brian Center Corporation, retired as owner from Total Scope Health Care, Construction & Real Estate Services, Inc. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church of Hickory. Ben was a graduate of Hickory High School and Lenoir-Rhyne College. In 1954, he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War until 1956.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Eric Setzer and a great-grandson Luke Elder.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Lorene Whisnant Setzer; a sister Norma Swanson of Lenoir; his daughters Caron Tucker (Michael) of Dudley Shoals and Terri Elder-Cook (David) of Bethlehem; and sons Tim Setzer (KC) and Michael K. Setzer (Christy) both of Taylorsville; grandsons, Corey Walden of Charlotte, Ashley Setzer (Brittany) of Ellenboro, Bradley Elder (Meredith) of Charlotte, Aaron Tucker (Deandre) of Hudson, Casey Walden (Whitney) of Troutman, Ethan Elder (Brooke) of Bethlehem, Cody Walden (Madison-fiancée) of Granite Falls and Parker Cook of Bethlehem; granddaughters, Nikki Icard (Jason), Jordyn Mundy (Justin), and Matysen Setzer all of Taylorsville; 15 great-grandchildren Ryleigh, Abbi, Waylen, Brody, Ella, Caine, Nolan, Emma, Chloe, Kendra, Lucas, Hadley, Easton and Owen.
Ben cultivated many friendships from compassionate caregivers during his illness. The family would like to thank those agencies that provided care through the years such as Catawba County Home Health, Gentiva Health Care, Life Transitions, VA Administration of Asheville, Premier Home Care and Catawba Regional Hospice.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 25, 2018, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Hickory. A Celebration of Ben’s life will follow at 11:00 AM officiated by Reverend Ryan Ray. Military Honors will be rendered by American Legion Post 48.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28658.
